HARDWARE & SPECS
Main Features and Benefits
The modem for your home can have as much powerful network performance in big office spaces. With the Arris SB8200 modem, users will have to second-guess renting another modem their ISP told them to rent. This modem will make you want one of your thanks to its superb features that boast hyper-speeds and management functionality.
This modem may not be a dual-router, but it sure does give your internet a boost in terms of speed and range. It has two 1-Gigabit Ethernet ports that can provide users with a maximum of 2 Gbps in bandwidth. This is not common in other dual modems and routers, which boasts download speeds up to 10 Gbps, and upload speeds at 2 Gbps for those who have high-volume network activities at home.
The dual-band frequency of 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz are beneficial to families who prefer optimal speeds in their homes for 4k streaming and HD gaming. Dual-band frequency in this modem also supports 32 downloads and eight upload channels, perfect for Gigabit speed internet plans that many people have a hard time letting go of when they move places.
Updated Network Technology
DOCSIS 3.1 is the latest network technology many users are looking for in a reliable modem; luckily, the Arris SB8200 modem has it. Not only that, but the modem is also still compatible with the previous network standard of DOCSIS 3.0, with set protocols to help users always be able to maximize their network experience even on an older version. The DOCSIS 3.1 boasts highly efficient internet speeds, which are ideal for 4K Ultra-HD video streaming and even Virtual Reality gaming if that's your kind of fun at home.
User-friendly at its Best
Another advantage first-time modem owners will have the seamless installation. This step tends to be complicated if you've never set-up any network support tool at home. However, with Arris SB8200, the hardware installation of the Arris SB200 is relatively straightforward and will take you less than 15 minutes max to get it started.
All you have to do is attach the cables to all the right ports, then begin the self-activation process, which will lead you to the web utility. This is the management portion of the set-up wherein users may make due changes to their network settings. The Spectrum Analyzer by Arris is also an additional app to help users identify issues with the modem, which is easily navigable with just a tap of your finger.
Moreover, the Arris SB8200 modem is compatible with major US cable internet providers for flexibility and ease of use, especially when moving into a new city. Nevertheless, it doesn't hurt to check with your local ISP if the Arris modem works great with the new router you plan to get.
When it comes to reliability, an extended warranty is a must. The Arris SB8200 modem gives buyers a two-year contract which first-time owners will appreciate. Since many people still prefer renting a modem that their ISP recommends, getting your modem for long-term use is a smart choice. With the warranty, getting your modem checked up or sorted out for updates periodically is a great way to maintain its longevity and performance.
The Arris SB8900 is an excellent modem to invest in, but just like other networking devices, there are a few points to work on. Although they don't necessarily affect the bandwidth optimization of the modem, they're still worth noting. Here are two cons we observed about the Arris SB8900 modem.
No Dual-Router and Telephone Adapter
This Arris modem may have two 1-Gigabit Ethernet ports, but it does not have a telephone adapter for those who prefer to strengthen their connectivity throughout the home. The Arris SB8900 is also not a dual-router which takes a few points away from the convenience people look for in a functional and user-friendly network support device.
A con for this modem is its design. The white exterior is supposed to come off sleek and minimalist, but it just looks stuffy. Regardless, labels and ports were seen and easily identifiable. If you could do without the modem’s aesthetics, then a few bucks for this Arris modem are worth it.
What is the Arris SB8200 Modem Best For?
The Arris SB8200 modem is the optimal choice for users who live in big houses and have multiple housemates. It's also a modem for places of work for high volume activity during busy work hours. Its user-friendly features like the security app and easy set-up process make it an option for those keen on protecting their data and having the autonomy to monitor their network activity.
Apart from seamless navigation, streaming, gaming, and dabbling into VR are all possible with the Arris SB8200. Thanks to its dual-band feature, throughput performance gives you and your roommates uninterrupted entertainment without having to worry about network congestion every time.
What Users Say About the Arris SB8200 Modem
If you are looking to jump on the gigabit bandwagon for your home internet package, this is one of the best places to start. Among the current Docsis 3.1 modems on the market capable of handling these speeds, this model wins the prize when it comes to stability, speed, latency and hardware. We have been running it straight since our first test of the modem, without a single reboot yet--now going on 2 months (thus far). Our speeds have been consistent throughout this window and with no outages (knock on virtual wood) or any other red flags…
...Swapping the modem took no work and it immediately registered on DOCSIS 3.1. The modem connects directly to an Asus RT-AC68R and my PC is hardwired directly to the router. 900+ down hardwired, 550 down on 5G, and 190 down on 2.4G (wireless speeds measured using an Asus PCE-AC68 wireless card). Ping times are around 9-15ms across all connections.
Been using several Arris modems for years, they are of great quality, though would be great have they are build of better plastic and have black color too. If you have Gigabit speed internet, SB8200 or and modem with DOCSIS 3.1 is a must, otherwise, your ISP may not like it and you may not get the speed worth. This modem squeeze out as much as it can from my ISP and speed is great even during high traffic hours. Make sure to check with your ISP that the modem is compatible with your Gigabit speed. If you have anything else lower, this modem is unnecessary overkill unless you want a future proof product.
When it comes to owning your modem, the Arris SB8200 is an ideal option for first-time users who prefer to own than rent it for months on end. This model will help you achieve the network you're not used to getting in your home life from HD streaming, seamless gaming, and smooth connections for Zoom calls at work.
Easy set-up, user-friendly highlights, and a two-year-long warranty all go with this investment. It gives users the chance to maximize their productivity wherever they are at home. Another plus is that it's generally compatible with multiple cable providers in the US.
The Arris SB8200 is no perfect modem, but it is a network support tool worth having in every home for a long-lasting, highly optimized network experience for both business and pleasure.
