HARDWARE & SPECS
Netgear's Nighthawk AX12 (Ax6000) is a popular 4 4 fast Wi-Fi device. The wireless performance of this Wi-Fi router is way better than the previous model of the Ax series. The real game-changer in the Ethernet market is its multiple Gig Ethernet ports. Not only is it stylish, but it provides the best in terms of connectivity, speed, and coverage.
Netgear RAX120 is one of the high-end routers Netgear has released. It is a dual-band router and has many features that make it one of the fast and reliable routers on the market. RAX120 has many great features that you would expect from any high-end router while remaining easy to use.
First up is the Netgear genie app, which lets you control your network remotely via smartphone. Before we get into listing its specifications and features, let's discuss its pros and cons to help you decide if it's the router for your home.
Benefits and Features
RAX120 Design
Have you seen a router that looks like a batman? Well, RAX120 does. The design is cool, but it's too bulky to place anywhere you like. It has two unique antennas that are similar to the wings of a bat. If you turn the router around, you will see USB, Ethernet, and Gigabit LAN ports.
You will also see the power button and the LED light. The led light indicates if the router is on or off. A multi-gig-Port simplifies wireless operation for Wi-Fi 6 clients that have 12 x 748 cm x 1.77 inches. The total weight of the device is 3 lbs. A four-foot rubber base allows you to put it on a surface.
Reliable User Interface
The router's web user interface is similar to that of previous Netgear Wi-Fi 5 routers. There are two tabs - Basic and Advanced. Most people are not going beyond the basic tab.
The Advanced Tab is for smart people wanting to customize all their home networks to the maximum. Netgear now uses Netgear Genie as its marketing unit. This is a welcome improvement.
The interface has become more lean and responsive. There are various places you can check connected clients, and set routing settings, etc. The Basic tab is an easy-to-use tool to set up your network.
Hardware
The Netgear RAX120 Quad CPU runs on a quad-core processor that uses a 2.0GHz processor speed. 512 MB of internal RAM and 1Gb of sdr3 internal data storage. The 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi is compatible with legacy customers.
The top speed in this band is 1.2 Gbps, but in the 5 GHz band, you will not get a much faster rate than other high-end routers. The router is equipped with an 8X8 Wi-Fi 6 unit with 802.11ax standard and has 80-MHz width of 600 Mbps. Its backward compatibility is 802.
Easy to use
With the Nighthawk app, you can easily manage your connected devices and run a speed test and manage your Netgear service subscriptions from the palm of your hand. You may also alter some of your router settings with this app without breaking a sweat!
Security
Netgear Armor Bitdefender VPN ensures that your online activity is private even when you're on an unsecured network. It also has Guest Wi-Fi, wherein you can set up a guest network with its name and password.
12-Stream AX6000 Wi-Fi 6
It is an excellent long-range router but is designed for long-distance usage. It provides lightning-fast services. The router is fully equipped with Wi-Fi 6 technology, intelligent security, and various other features, making it ideal for many residential applications.
It allows you to connect more devices than Wi-Fi 5. With this version, you can enjoy the ultra-fast and reliable connection to any device at your home.
Multi-gig Port
It has 4Gb LAN ports so you can connect more wired devices from your home, office, and entertainment spaces. Multi-Gig support allows the use of 2G/2.4GS / 1Gb of RAM as the main mode of transmission.
There are also 2 USB 3 port connections to house storage devices. The router has the potential to deliver ultra-fast NET storage performance for host devices. The router's cable link no longer constitutes a bottleneck when working with clients that have Wi-Fi 6.
MU-MIMO
MU-MIMO (multi-user, multiple-input, and multiple outputs) allows the Nighthawk to connect with several devices at once. You can enjoy lag-free streaming on any device you use, even while there are many users simultaneously connected to your Wi-Fi network.
QoS
Netgear also supports the QoS (Quality of Service) feature. This feature manages and controls network resources by assigning priorities to different types of data on the network. You can now prioritize multiple tasks without having to be concerned about network performance degradation.
Set-Up
Netgear's Wi-Fi settings on the RAX120 are pretty simple. The default router is easy to set up; however, it typically favors compatibility against performance. There's also a Media Server option that turns a router into a streaming server for local streamers.
You can share storage locally as a server and access it without using any third-parties software. Alternatively, for installations with ReadyShare Applications, you will be able to store data and access files with internet capabilities. You may also use the router as support for backups and access the information remotely by the internet.
What is the Netgear RAX120 Best For?
If your home or office does not require this much speed, then look elsewhere, as this router's price might be too much for that purpose. Also, if your router's port forwarding and parental controls are essential features, then Netgear Nighthawk RAX120 may not work well for you.
Netgear Nighthawk RAX120 is ideal for people who are looking for a high-performance router. But keep in mind that it's bulky, and you can find routers with similar or better features at lower price points.
If you aren't concerned about its size, then the Netgear Nighthawk RAX120 will give an excellent wireless internet experience to all devices connected to it!
What Buyers Have To Say
Aside from great looks, this box has performance to match. I haven't had any issues since I bought it, and it provides excellent signal strength throughout my 2500 square foot single-story house from the front yard to the back yard.
Signal is pretty damn good & strong (between -21 to -7 dBm). I wish more add-on's supported the AX protocol, but I knew that going in.
Really happy with the product. Setup was a breeze, and everything was lighting fast.
Why It Stands Out To Us
We like this router because it has a massive capacity for wired and wireless devices. It also has advanced features that have made it stand out from its rivals. It may not have defaults like limited parental controls and a high price tag, but it's still with the price for its performance!
Conclusion
The Netgear Nighthawk RAX120 is a great router that can be depended on for high-speed internet with no issues. However, it has some limitations and user interface problems that may impact your experience somewhat depending on how you use it or what you need from its functions.
You should also consider your budget before purchasing as there are options at lower price points without sacrificing too much in terms of performance relative to this one.
