HARDWARE & SPECS
Main Features & Benefits
The Technicolor C110T modem boasts several advantages that potential users and buyers will find useful. Apart from its easy installation, direct access to status, start-up sequence, and connectivity via LEDs, along with the dual-router integration, a few other technical pros include the following.
Budget-Friendly and Easy Management
The Technicolor C110T modem is inexpensive in its class, making it great for those on a student budget. It gives users direct access to multiple integrated web pages and transparency when managing network settings like the Service Set Identifier (SSID).
This modem also has a port for the coaxial cable to help with network decongestion and signal boosting. In terms of configuration, the Technicolor C1100T is compliant with the TR-069 data model, allowing users to remotely configure the modem without asking other users to pause their ongoing network activities.
Superb Decongestion Protocols
Optimizing your network activity includes knowing the causes of network congestion and bottlenecks. With Technicolor’s superb decongestion protocols, users will get an idea of what, when, and where these issues are brewing up.
It supports IPv4 and IPv6 internet protocols, which help in decoding the usage behavior in mobile connections. However, having the IPv6 also has more address space for optimizing and sorting out new internet addresses.
The Technicolor C1100T supports the latest eco-standards, ensuring the design doesn’t infringe on the environment during manufacturing. This is an eco-design principle Technicolor has been practicing since 1992. Today, including their C1100T model, the EIMEV5 is applied to every modem designed for a more optimal Life-Cycle Analysis Tool users can make use of in the long run.
This modem supports C-BRAS (Broadband Remote Access Server) dynamic rate switching, allowing users to switch funnels for traffic from DSL and cable modem when distributing signals to multiple devices. This incorporates high-level traffic protocols such as IP and MPLS, which fine-tunes their throughput performance wherever they are in the home or workspace.
Optimal for Older Router Models
The Technicolor C1100T is a modem that supports CenturyLink routers and other types of routers, depending on your ISP and preference. One commendable thing about this modem is that it promotes low-speed internet subscription plans or slower DSL speeds for those on a budget and only uses the internet for primary data transfer or browsing.
In terms of points of improvement, this router and modem have a few spots to cover. However, these may have already been addressed in the latest models. Regardless, when it comes to reliable networking, having the latest upgrades would be a boost. Below are a few marks the Technicolor C1100T modem has missed.
Doesn’t Offer the Latest WiFi Technology (802.11ac)
Although it offers the 802.11b/g/n variants, it’s not up to par with the latest networking standard of 802.11ac. The newest networking standard is what many homes are leaning towards nowadays since its AC supports the dual-band upgrade.
However, with the modem only carrying a bandwidth of 300 Mbps on the 2.4 GHz band, it would make more sense that the 802.11ac standard was unnecessary.
No 5GHz Network Access
There is no 5 GHz band available with the Technicolor C1100T, only the 2.4 GHz standard, which functions at a maximum theoretical speed of 300 Mbps.
If your networking activities include a lot of HDTV streaming and gaming, then a Technicolor router and modem with 5 GHz capacity are more advisable for uninterrupted entertainment for long hours.
Nevertheless, the 2.4 GHz band is suitable for users who are usually connected to the WiFi on their mobile devices. It has a better wavelength for those with portable devices and is transported frequently like smartphones and tablets.
What Users Say About the Technicolor C1100T
This modem was easy to set up with my Centurylink account, and I'm very happy with it. Received it very quickly and am very happy with seller.
This modem was sent to me to replace an old Zyxel PK5001z. The c1100t is every bit as easy to use as my old modem but can achieve faster speeds and seems overall much snappier. The Wi-Fi is easy to setup as well with great range. Overall I really like this modem.
Although product was used, it looked like new condition, with only exception it didn't come in a box. That's just one less thing to throw away. The only installation problems I had I attribute to CenturyLink and their issues, not that of the modem/router itself. I'm still working out a few technical issues, but again, I attribute those issues to CenturyLink and not to the equipment provided by this provider. This purchase vs. rental break even point is very short with this product. I highly recommend!
Things to Consider When Buying a Compatible Modem for Your Router
You might ask yourself, what if I already have a CenturyLink router and just need a modem that works well with it? Or maybe you plan on upgrading to a Technicolor modem with the same CenturyLink router. Consider these key elements to look into if you want a reliable networking experience for every penny you plan to spend.
Every modem has its variation of DSL technology, and depending on your ISP, the performance will always fluctuate. Know that every generation of DSL technology comes with a higher chance of optimizing your networking activities.
Some have faster speeds than the preceding models, while others may live in parts of the US where the Technicolor DSL upgrade is not available. Best to check with your local DSL customer service rep to see if your subscription plan is compatible with a modem that offers the latest speed upgrade.
Some modems have Bonded ADSL2+, which offers a bandwidth of 25 Mbps. Others may have a modem with a Bonded VDSL2 that comes with a maximum theoretical speed of up to 100 Mbps, which checks out with the Technicolor C1100T.
Another essential factor to look into is the wireless protocol of your router and modem. Most updated routers are dual-band, which means they can broadcast on both a 2.4 GHz band and a 5 GHz band for higher and more optimal frequencies.
The Technicolor C1100T has a 2.4 GHz frequency, which is more suitable for moving through walls and other physical obstructions in a house. The 5GHz wireless protocol is an ideal option for homes with more network activity like streaming gaming due to its ability to support faster WiFi speeds and support beamforming features.
Owning is Better than Renting
Many IT professionals will say many contradicting statements, but at the end of the day, owning your modem might give you more value for money than renting one.
Most ISPs or DSL providers will provide you with the option to rent out a modem that your existing router already carries because it comes out more convenient and more cost-generative on their end.
However, for those who prefer to invest in their modem, it may be a smarter choice. Users will learn how to assess the causes of a bottleneck in your network while also finding ways to manage devices in their home without sacrificing the throughput performance that works best for their devices, a long-term investment waiting to happen.
Going big and owning a Technicolor C1100T modem is a clear-cut way to address poor network performance in your home or workspace. It brings optimal speeds with the 2.4GHz for those who are trying to maximize their work-from-home set-up. Data transfer and basic streaming are possible for both work and play.
It meets the latest eco-standards with a sustainable design that manufacturers have attributed to succeeding models. Decongesting your network performance will be more straightforward with its dynamic rate switching protocol than getting a separate modem and router that might just add to bottleneck and latency issues in your network.
Level up the consistency in your networking experience right in your own home with the best of what Technicolor C1100T has to offer.
