Available Auxiliary Devices
Increase your TP-Link SR20 router’s overall functionality by adding the Smart Open-Close Sensor (CS100) and the Smart Motion Sensor (MS100). Keep in mind that you have to buy these sensors separately.
The Smart Open-Close Sensor is a device that is installed on your door or window. This notifies you via the Kasa app that it has been opened or closed. You can even set it to turn the light on when the door opens automatically.
Immediately know when a room in your house is occupied with the Smart Motion Sensor. This sensor detects movements with a wide field of view.
Cons
Very Shoddy Security
In December 2018, a security developer at Google, Matthew Garret, discovered a weakness in the TP-Link SR20’s security. However, TP-Link has released an April 2019 firmware update to address this vulnerability.
It is still best to keep the router’s Wi-Fi access password strong and unique even with this update. Also, always make sure that the router’s firewall is set to on and do not allow anyone or any device you don’t trust on the network.
For its limited functionality, it's quite pricey.
The Kasa app or the built-in touchscreen can help you control your smart home network. With this, you will have intelligent access to everything in your home. However, please note that these features might not work with all devices. If you want these features, you can find a cheaper router with a better internet speed than its competitors in the market.
What is the TP-Link SR20 Best For?
The TP-Link SR20 will welcome the future of your home. With its supported IoT-ready devices, you can go out for a walk in the park and still be in control of your smart home devices. This lets you enjoy your daily activities with peace of mind. All of these while still providing you an excellent AC1900 high-speed connection that ensures a joyful game time and movie night with your family and friends.
What Buyers Have To Say About TP-Link SR20?
I have the router and many of the Kasa Tp Link products (bulbs, light switches, dimmers, plugs, door sensor and motion sensor. Everything works great. There is some maintaince making sure everything functioning. I can say time to time may need to reset router especially when adding new products helps all sync up.
Set up of the router was very easy. You must download the app to complete this. I installed my open-close motion sensor on my garage door. This way, I can have certain lights come on when I arrive home. They can be set to automatically turn off after a period of time. Doing this was very simple also. I placed the motion sensor where I thought best. Set up scenes for it. I couldn't be happier with this system. I have over 25 tp-link products. This includes light bulbs, switches throughout, cameras, extenders, routers, and outlets, etc.
When I was considering a home setup, I was originally gonna go the Apple route and invest in the HomePod. That’s too expensive. Then I thought the Studio speaker from Amazon. Also too much. I decided on the TP-Link router because it has almost all the features needed for simple home integration: Zigbee, WiFi 2.4G/5G, touchscreen, app access and control, and a simple design that just works aesthetically in my space. The only thing I wish I could control is the built-in blue light. It feels a little bright for me. But the signal never fails and I love that I can instantly check its data speed from the unit or app! A great find and a possible second purchase for the next home I plan to purchase and furnish.
